Let it go 'Anne Frank' for a couple more years.
My bottle of Black Mountain Fat Cat Cabernet Sauvignon told me that it was best to cellar it for five years or more. I checked the bottle–2005. The math didn’t add up quite right, but we were in need of some wine.
We opened it up to a really enjoyable wine. The fruit notes were abundant with lots of mixed berries leading the way onto the palate. It had a medium body and drank pretty well.
The one problem is that the overt sweetness made for a less-than-desirable finish. My hunch is that three more years in the bottle would have helped smooth things out.
The grapes, grown in Sonoma County in California, these grapes strive for a little more oak flavor than they can really muster. But at just around $7 a bottle, the Fat Cat is a good choice whether or not you have the patience to cellar it for years.
