My night out with Miss Schlafly Oktoberfest Beer

If I were on a blind date with Schlafly’s Oktoberfest Beer, I would have been pleasantly surprised at the

outset. When I opened the bottle I was greeted by an alluring malty aroma that screamed, “Take me now!” I poured it into the glass and couldn’t help but notice its amber hue flirting with me.

The first few sips off the beer’s head were encouraging and brought out the sweet hints that marked my subsequent beer experience. She was giving me the green light to enjoy.

But then, like sitting at a dinner table with nothing to talk about but the weather, my first date with this beer sort of flattened out. She had the full body and malty character I expected from a respectable Octoberfest and the subtle hops were showing off, too. But when I was halfway through the glass, I realized that I was with a respectable lager and that i would have to settle for a goodnight kiss.

Don’t get me wrong, I definitely enjoyed my time with the Oktoberfest from the St. Louis-based brewer. Schlafly is one of the better parts of the St. Louis beer scene and enjoys a significant distribution in the MIdwest. I’d recommend just about any of their beers if you have the opportunity to pick one up. My date with Oktoberfest was worth the modest price.

I would agree to a second date with Schlafly Oktoberfest Beer (especially if she were paying).

BallHype: hype it up!

Both, really. I both liked the beer’s beginning and was just okay with the end. Sort of like Ludacris says, you want lady on the street and a freak in the bed. Schlafly Oktoberfest lacks the latter quality.

I don’t suppose you’ll be reviewing boulevard’s octoberfest anytime soon?

Yeah, Bob’s 47 is definitely on the list.

I am pleased with both Schlafly’s and Boulevard’s Oktoberfest offerings but I don’t know if my tastes have shifted or if something else is amiss but I did not find either as ‘great’ as I previously remembered. I still feel they are pretty solid but they didn’t knock me knock me outta my socks like they once did.
