Roses just as sweet by any other name

This summer has shown that roses are no longer the kid sister to serious wine. All indications show that the blush is booming .

Refreshing/boozy.

Refreshing/boozy.

But the window of opportunity is closing for the summer wine. Roses are mostly white in character but range in color from pink to purple depending how the grapes are crushed. They make a good summer wine because they’re so light and refreshing, the sort of thing that’s very sexy to drink on a patio somewhere while you talk about books and movies you don’t really understand.

White Zinfandel out of California is produced by a process called bleeding (don’t worry, they’re just grapes) and is one of the most popular roses. They’re available in a wide range of prices and corresponding qualities and you can find them at most grocers.
